Matthew Syken

As the general counsel and chief legal officer of Parex USA, a subsidiary of ParexGroup SA, Matthew E. Syken draws on international experience in corporate law and finance. He comes to his current position after serving as general counsel for Wellcredit Corp., part of Qingdao World Trade Ltd., in New Zealand, China, and the United States. Responsible for overseeing all Wellcredit company legal matters, Matthew Syken supervised contract drafting, protection of intellectual property, and litigation; established best practices for corporate governance; and created financial services departments in New Zealand and the U.S., including compliance with broker/dealer regulations of the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

Matthew E. Syken had previously overseen both FINRA and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulatory compliance as the general counsel and vice president of Black Legend Capital LLC, a private equity company. Concurrently, in private practice, he served as an arbitrator for a variety of regulatory bodies, including FINRA, JAMS (formerly known as Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services), and the American Arbitration Association (AAA). During this time, Matthew Syken also served as a banking and corporate litigation counsel to two prominent California firms.

Matthew Syken earlier practiced law as a senior associate with Rick, Steiner, Fell & Benowitz and as associate general counsel to Cordia Telecom Corp., for which he handled all SEC and FINRA compliance matters.

He holds a juris doctor from the Touro Law Center and is currently on sabbatical from an MBA program at Johns Hopkins University.
